Pit Pass

Here is a page devoted to all forms of racing whether it be circuit racing, dirt track or drags, if there's an XS there I want to know!

Hi, Terry
Greetings from Canada. Hope you enjoy the attachment. Entered several vintage races this past season, kept it upright , placed as high as 5th, as poorly as second last, oh yeah and a DNF when the clutch basket disconnected from its shaft ! With a good rider - and  mechanic - this bike could be a winner !

Dyno'd at 67 hp at the rear wheel, 48 lb.ft. Since then have installed new trick exhaust, going from 36 to 38mm Mikunis , see if we can't top 70hp - on pump gas. Already 10 hp more than my 1000cc Moto Guzzi ! I love this bike.

Hope all is well with you. Still waiting to see your finished xs project.

Wakefield Park

Tony Filmer went to Wakefield park for his first race on his RZ250 in superlights and unfortunately ended the first day injured after being high-sided at high speed after a rear brake lock-up on his tenth lap. Tony has done some damage to his shoulder apparently but will recover to race another day. I'm sure I can speak for the rest of the club in wishing him a speedy recovery. Better luck next time Tony.

The bike wearing a few scars from the accident. What's Ivan's push bike helmet doing on the seat?
Taking the piss out of a fellow racer hey Ivan, I'll bet that went down like a lead balloon.

As you all probably know by now some of our members are into racing. Ivan Hoey is one of the most prominent at the moment and competes in Forgotten Era Unlimited and this year (2006) finished third in the N.S.W. championship. Another of our former club members Mick Muldoon finished second in the Post Classic Unlimited championship for 2006.

When you consider both these blokes compete against some pretty stiff opposition like the ex Graeme Crosby and the ex Wayne Gardener bikes which are both 4 cylinder 1000cc plus machines that is a fantastic achievement.

Tony Filmer is just starting his racing ambitions this weekend at Wakefield Park on a RZ250 Yamaha and I'm sure we all wish him luck.

Herb Conlin has a stable of XS650 dirt racing machines which also do very well wherever they appear.

We also have Matt Moloney from Warrnambool in Victoria who is about to start racing is new wasp outfit with XS power.

In South Australia we have Walter Preisig who is very well known in racing circles for his "Offline" suspension business and his world class wasp offroad racing outfits and his circuit racer, all XS powered.

Also in South Australia we have Wayne Townsend, another offroader.

Friends in other countries include

Richard Cheetham

Hey, 2 wheel fans. Yup, that's me on the xs650 ! Spent  3 days at Shannonville, racing school, a 2 hr endurance race plus my first time ever in Period 2 [ up to '72 ] heat races. Sunday final qualified 12th out of 18, finished 12th, stayed upright, nothing broke. Happy Father's Day indeed !

My endurance riding partner Ron Pfaff took 3rd place honors in Period 1 middleweight on his 1965 Honda cb450. His head's so big now he can't get his helmet back on !

The rephase motor still shakes a lot. I think all the extra bang from the 50-60% hp boost negates the smoothing effect of the 270deg. crank. I'm running 5000-8000 continuously and still feel like I'm short-shifting. Unbelievable torque. I can light up the rear tire in first just with throttle roll-on. Very impressive for a '72. For those I haven't told already, Cycle Canada magazine is doing a 2 page feature article on the bike in an upcoming issue. Guess they like it too.  53 year wait for my 10 minutes of fame .

Have to go get fitted for a larger helmet now.

There are many others who have racing in their blood and if they would to send me some pics and a biography of their exploits I would be happy to put them on this page. Just send them to xs650@xs650.org.au
